At the October 15 selectmen’s meeting it was learned that Conway Fire Chief is open to offering Albany a two year contract. Also at the meeting, Rob Nadler suggested that Chief Solomon might be interested in becoming Albany’s Emergency Management Director. It appears that Albany’s unreserved fund balance is above the Department of Revenue’s recommended level. (To read the entire minutes, go to www.albanynh.org

The Annual Albany Turkey Dinner is tonight at 5pm. Come down for good food and an enjoyable evening with neighbors. Proceeds go to the good works of the Albany Civic Group and benefits the Lora Pierce Johnson scholarship fund.

Tuesday, November 4 is Election Day. The polls will open at 8am and close at 7pm. Don’t forget to vote!

Gibson Center: On Friday there will be a Halloween Luncheon. Prizes will be given for the prettiest, most original, funniest, and scariest costumes. The parade will come before dessert is served. Remember to sign up for the AARP Safe Driver class presented with discussion and video by Dan Andrews . There will be Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Should you need transportation to the polls on November 4, call 356-3231 to sign up for door to door service.

Library: Monday at noon the first Family Place Session will start. Tuesday at 10:30 am it’s Fall Story Time for Twos and Wednesday same time is Story Time for Babies. Thursday at 10:30 am it’s Story Time for 3 and 4 year olds. At 2 pm join others for Olga Morrill’s Retirement Party.

UNH Extension: To farmers and those interested in growing your own fruits and vegetables: October 29 from 9am to 3:30 pm join others at the North Country Fruit & Vegetable Seminar & Trade Show at the Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield. Saturday, November 1 from 10am to noon there will be a regional informational forum on agribusiness at Tamworth Town Hall. Stay for lunch and network with others. RSVP to pfarley@tamworthnh.net. At the last Albany Historical Society meeting, Jack Rose led the group as their new president. After a long wait, the IRS 541c exemption designation for the society has been approved. The newsletter should be coming out in November. Perhaps that will spur more people to become interested in the history of Albany and then become members of the Historical Society. On October 29 at 3pm there will a walk through of the museum. This was the last meeting of the year. The next meeting will be in May, 2015.

On November 1 Rebecca Rule will be telling her famous stories at Mountain View Community nursing home in Ossipee. This is a fundraiser for the residents of the county nursing home. Come out for a fun evening and help the residents get some useful extras.

Put November 5 on your calendar for a great dinner and a fun evening. The LLWD bookclub did and will be holding their regular monthly meeting at Darby Field that evening. Enjoy good food and the lovely artwork decorating the walls.

I’ve heard the sounds of gunfire coming from the forest. It’s hunting season in NH. Moose hunting began last Saturday. Remember to be careful while in wooded areas.
