At the selectmen’s meeting the selling of tax deeded properties was discussed. The selectmen are considering having real estate brokers handle the sales, or offering the properties to abutters, or putting an ad in the paper offering the properties to the public. Kathy will check with the attorney regarding fees the selectmen have authority to waive to determine just which of these options will be taken. The sheriff’s department will be patrolling Bald Hill Road for speeders. The October 22 meeting has been cancelled as it is the annual meeting of the North Country Council. The selectmen have opted to hold their meeting on October 29 at 3:30pm.

It’s nearly Election Day (November 4) and the ballots have arrived at town hall. If you know that you will not be able to get to the polls to cast your ballot, you can request an absentee ballot. Please stop by the Selectmen’s Office to request a form or call to have one mailed to you.The Supervisors of the Checklist will be at Town Hall on Saturday, October 25 from 11 to 11:30 am to make changes and additions to the checklist before the November 4 elections.

A vehicle rolled over last week on Route 16 just northeast of Albany Town Hall. Four people in the car were taken to Memorial Hospital and traffic was held up for about half an hour. This is just the kind of problem the Planning Board is concerned about.

Gibson Center: On Tuesday, October 21, David Smollens, head of the Conway Library, will present “Social Media Overview”. This will include how to protect your identity and answer such questions as “What are hash tags?” On October 23 after lunch enjoy a slide show about South Dakota Badlands. Don’t forget to register for the ever popular AARP Driver Safety Program to be held on November 12.

Library: Monday at 10:15 am there will be a discussion on the Sparrow Book. At 6:30 pm enjoy original music on keyboard by Meg Josalen. Tuesday at 10:30 am there’s Story Time for Two Year Olds followed on Wednesday at 10:30 am by Story Time for Babies less than Two Years Old. Three and four year olds get to enjoy story time on Thursday at 10:30 am.

UNH Extension: Protection of and improving productivity of soil will be discussed on October 23 at Ramblin Vews Farm in Gilford. Call 447-2771 by October 21 to register. It’s almost time for the famous and delicious Albany Turkey Dinner. Put Saturday, October 25 at 5 pm on your calendar. If you wish to help, Kathy is looking for people to make some of those tasty desserts. Call her at 447-2877 if you can supply some goodies. The price of the dinner is $9 for adults and $7 for children 10 and under. Take out is $11.

The Conway Scenic Railroad will be having a special Halloween train ride for kids on October 24 and 25. The wearing of costumes is encouraged and children will get to select a pumpkin. For more information go to www.conwayscenic.com.

Settlers’ Green will be having a Halloween program free to children under 11 years old. Dress up in a costume and go trick-or-treating at Settlers’.

It’s hunting season folks. Time to take out the orange vest when working, walking, or running in wooded areas. Be careful out there.
