The Selectmen and Clerk’s Offices will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day. The Selectmen’s office will be closed on Thursday and Friday October 16 and 17 as Kathy will be at a conference.

Among the items taken up at the Wednesday Selectmen’s meeting were the properties Albany has for sale. Badger Realty, Haines Realty, and Sullivan and Sullivan Auctioneers are looking at the properties to offer for sale. The contract with Conway Fire Department is up for renewal. The Fire Chief submitted a proposal for $105,000 for a one year contract. Jack Rose would like to get a quote from Madison Fire Department as well. Rob Nadler reported the Regional Collaborative Board is holding a special meeting with planning associates from Maine to make local ordinances friendlier to gain economically in the region.

Josephine Howland, who worked for the MassHighway Department of Highway Safety, sends along this information. After requesting crash data for Route 16 in Albany for the last 10 years she found that these six miles are very curvy with little or no shoulder/breakdown lanes. Safety is a subject that needs to be considered in the discussion of a Route 16 commercial/business district. Anyone have any ideas along these lines? The Planning Board meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, October 15. Bring your ideas with you.

It’s almost turkey time again. Kathy Vizard has once more volunteered to work on the supper this year, but she will need help. Call her at 447-6038 if you can offer some assistance. The supper will be October 25 at 5pm. Put it on your calendar.

Gibson Center: The Center will be closed on Monday. On Tuesday after lunch there will be a Candidate Forum. Bring your questions. Don’t forget to sign up for the AARP Driver Safety Program set for November 11. Call 356-3231 to register.

Library: The library is closed on Monday. Tuesday at 10:30 am it’s Fall Story Time for Two Year Olds. AARP presents Fraud Prevention in NH at 6:30 pm. On Wednesday at 10:30 am it’s Fall Story Time for Babies younger than two. Thursday at 10:30 am it’s Fall Story Time for Three and Four Year Olds. At 3 pm Next Gen Group meets. At 6 pm Mount Washington Valley Green Team has a Presentation on Solar Energy.

UNH Extension: Last week there was a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Carroll County Farm High Tunnel. A jail prisoner helped with the carpentry and other inmates helped put up the tunnel. Ken LaValley, Interim Dean and Director of the Extension, Olivia Saunders, Food & Agriculture Field Specialist, along with several others interested in the High Tunnel were at the ceremony. The intent of the tunnel is to conduct vegetables production research. The goals are to host community events and workshops on winter growing and season extension, increase production at the County Farm and create ongoing dialogue with local farmers on the research. Master gardeners and 4-H Club members will be part of those working on this project.

The World Fellowship Center is considering building a 9,000 gallon water storage tank and piping for the use of the center. There is a lot of property there to use the water.

Ed Foley recently returned from a reunion in Rhode Island with the Thirteenth Bomber Squadron. This group is the longest active squadron of the US Air Force. It was formed in France in WWI and is presently in Afghanistan flying B-2 Bombers. There are only a handful of members still alive from the WWII era and a few more from the Korean War era. Ed is a veteran of the Korean War. He did instrumentation and aerial photography on the B-26 Bombers.

Sandy Stowell has returned from her nearly two month road trip in her RV with her friend Carol. She visited her daughter Lisa before Lisa took off for another tour in Afghanistan. She went out west to see some friends she had gone to school with nearly 50 years ago. Now it’s time to can some apples.

Shaina McKenney and John Irving are the proud parents of a daughter, Piper Rosaleen Eve Irving born August 11. The proud maternal grandparents are Dawn George and Ryan Savary of Albany.
