Albany Cemetery Committee
July 9, 2015
At 4:05 PM, the Cemetery Committee was called to order. In attendance were Kelly Rabitaille, Kim Guptill, and Cathy Ryan. Also present was Cheryl Paige. The following business was conducted.
Kim reported that four plots have been purchased this year, 1 at High St and 3 at Hammond Cemetery.
Cathy confirmed with Kim that maintenance mowing of the cemeteries occurs three times a year, around Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. A fourth mowing is in the budget if needed. With the weather we have had this summer, a fourth mowing may be necessary. Randy Leach has been doing the maintenance again this year. He confirmed with Kim that he has contacted a qualified person to cut down the damaged tree at the Passaconaway Cemetery. The task is scheduled for some time in August.
Kelly bought up the subject of correcting the misspelling of the Passaconaway sign. Kelly had measured the length of the lettering. It was agreed that a plaque with the correct spelling should be put over what is there. Kim will contact Jeff at Arthur Memorials for cost of such an item.
A sign for the Covered Bridge Cemetery is needed. Kelly and Kim were both of the idea to have a carved wooden sign with black recessed lettering, hung with chain on the fence Thus keeping with the rustic theme of the cemetery. All agreed this would a good idea.
Posts with black boundary rope and yellow breakaway chain have been installed. The project of capping the boundary posts is half complete. Moody and Hammond cemeteries are done. Kelly brought up the idea of putting taller, different type caps on the posts at each cemetery entrance. Therefore, making the entrances stand out. After discussion on this subject, Kim said she would look into it. She is ordering the other half of the caps this week to complete this project of capping the posts.
The cemetery maps need to be copied, and put in form for the future safe keeping.. Kim has done some research on copying the maps. Kelly said he would stop at Minute Man asking them if they could do that for us. The map of the Moody Cemetery is missing. Kelly stated that the Planning Board was planning to reorganize the conference room. Perhaps the Cemetery Committee could work with them or ask them to be on the look out for the map.
