At the Wednesday selectmen’s meeting Kelly Robitaille reported on an audit that showed the budget for 2014 was underspent by $28,036 or 4% thus saving the Albany taxpayers money. The DOT has given Albany a block grant of more than $36,000 which will go towards the 2016 budget. The lighting work at Town Hall is completed and Eversource will come by to check everything out. Ed Foley, of the VFW post that meets at Town Hall, came by and donated two New Hampshire flags to the town. He also reported that Wendell Dicey is stepping down as commander and David Jones is taking his place. Jack Rose reporting on the Conservation Commission said that Paul Brown had retired and Michael Steward has offered to step up and take his place. The selectmen voted to make the change and appoint Mike. The selectmen plan to contact a logger to check if there is enough timber to cut in the forest area around Bald Hill. This would be necessary before work on any resurfacing Bald Hill could take place. Fish and Game, who now occupy what had been the DOT building off the Kancamagus Highway, has agreed to allow Albany to use a portion of that area for a road leading to the farmland. Estimates will be made as to the cost of the road. Two parking areas along the Kancamagus will be made to enable people who wish to hike the trails to park off the roadway.

While visiting Anna Cataldo in the hospital while she was recuperating from the fall she took, she told me about her son Jimmy’s retirement from the Air Force. James Cataldo retired after 22 years and the actual proceedings were conducted at and onboard Air Force One on which he served. Her description of the service was quite moving. Afterwards the family was allowed to tour the plane and they met President Obama who lauded Jimmy’s service. Anna is now recuperating at Mineral Springs, Room 217B. If you’d like to send a card the address is Mineral Springs, 1251 White Mtn. Hwy. N. Conway 03860.

Happy birthday wishes to Mary Leavitt who celebrated her 39+ (just like Jack Benny) birthday on August 20! And a good well wish to Arthur Leavitt after an accident where he hit his head on the lift of his loader and ended up with a large cut on his head.

Frank Wales and family came from Florida to visit dad, Richard Wales. They celebrated Richard’s birthday with a party at Legion Hall. Happy belated birthday Richard!

A warm welcome to Dana and Nancy Rotman of Wallingford, Ct. who are enjoying their summer home here in Albany for a few days.

As the summer winds down we begin to see the changing of colors though it seems slower this year. Probably all the rain we’ve had. Enjoy what’s left of the warm weather and have a great week!
