July 17, 2015

Saturday, July 18 is the annual Albany Picnic in the Albany Forest, rain or shine. There will be a large canopy to keep you cool (from the sun) and dry should it rain. The picnic is open to all Albany residents both full and part time and their guests. There’s great food and lots of fun events. Get your Albany tee shirt and/or Albany cap which will go on sale at the event. Take a swim in the Swift if you like (though there will be no lifeguard on duty). You’re asked to bring an entree or salad with dressing if your last name begins with A-M. Bring a dessert or fruit if your last name begins with N-Z.

Jack Rose reported at the selectmen’s meeting that Peter Howling who did the work on the fields in the forest has been invited to attend the picnic. Cathy Ryan reported on the meeting with Kim Guptill, chair of the cemetery committee. Four cemetery plots have been sold, and the misspelling at the Passaconaway cemetery is being repaired by covering it over with an appropriate plaque. Capping at the Moody and Hammond cemeteries has been completed and work continues on other sites. The committee is working on digitizing cemetery maps. Additionally a large tree will be removed in August from the Passaconaway cemetery. Be advised that Kathy Vizard will be on vacation from Thursday, July 16 though Monday, July 20. The office will be closed.

As reported, Lower Falls in Albany has been renovated. Governor Hassan and various officials were on hand for the dedication earlier this month. Steve and Sara Knox attended too. They both agreed that the work done was well needed for both safety and usefulness and that those who go to the falls are enjoying the new look.

One of Albany’s family is in need. Josephine Howland’s husband, Scott has been diagnosed with serious health problems and their medical bills/home renovation costs to accommodate his needs are out of sight. They are asking that people go to http://www.gofundme.com/z5g97w to lend them a hand.

Josh Knox visited his folks, Sara and Steve, last week. He now lives in Essex, Vt. with his wife Melody. She was unable to join him as she was working on a math project for the course that she teaches at St. Michael’s College. Josh enjoyed his swim down from Big Eddie to the slide on the Kanc. It took him three hours to do it, but it was worth it he said.

Deepest condolences to David Moody and family on the death of David Jr. If you wish to make a donation send it to Jen’s Friends.

Even though the DOT has done work on Route 16 in Albany, there was an accident in front of My Favorite Things last Monday. Fortunately no one was hurt. Keep safe out there.

Enjoy these lovely summer days. Have a great week!
