At this week’s selectmen’s meeting the budget for the year was begun.  The selectmen hope to have it completed shortly.  They also worked on warrant articles for the March 11 Town Meeting.  Next  Wednesday’s selectmen’s meeting will begin at 4:30 pm. Besides town elections on Town Meeting day, there will also be the special election for the District 1 Executive Council seat due to the death of Ray Burton.

Gibson Center: With tax time coming, AARP is offering free tax help to those with moderate to low income.  Call 356-3231 to set up an appointment. Thursday, February 6 is the Annual Valentines Auction.  The White Mountain Hotel will host the event and they will provide hors d’oeuvres. George Cleveland will be the auctioneer.  This is a way to get great gifts and support the Center.  Call the number above to RSVP.

Library: Today at 10 am it’s Take Your Child to the Library Day.  It’s a free and a fun way for the family to explore the library, make a craft, get a book and a library card.  On Tuesday at 4:30 pm the Writers Group holds its monthly meeting.  The author of the month is Mike Hathaway.  His book is the Mystery in the Dream House.  If you have questions about the ACA or need help signing up, the library has teamed with White Mountain Community Health Center to assist you.  Make a FREE appointment by calling 447-8900 and ask for Mary Jane. The Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, February 10 at 4 pm.

UNH Extension: A five day Goat Production workshop presented by Dot Perkins takes place February 11,18,25 and March 4 from 6-8 pm at the Rockingham County Extension office.The cost is $15 per class though 4-Hers are free but must be accompanied by an adult.  Call 679-5616 to register. A two day Fruit Tree School program will be held in February and March for new growers, orchard managers, and individuals looking to start an orchard. Attention senior citizens!

There is a free one hour webinar strictly for seniors on Substance Use and Medication Misuse in Older Adults.  It will run on February 19 from noon to 1 pm. Get the facts and tips from Dr. Steven Bartels, Director of the Dartmouth Centers for Health and Aging. Also for seniors, Senator Jeanne Shaheen will host a “telephone town hall” at 6 pm on Tuesday, February 4 specifically to help seniors avoid falling victim to fraud and scams.  If you wish to participate in this call, go to http://www.shaheen.senate.gov/teletownhall to sign up.

On Thursday from 11 am to 12:30 pm the students of Kennett High School’s Cafe will be serving lunch to all those who come by. The Cafe is part of the tech center and the students do a great job.  Take some time and enjoy.  Call 356-4370 ext.3107 if you have questions.

The art work of Robert Casper will be featured at the Laura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at Fryeburg Academy.  The gallery is open to the public from 10 am to 1 pm Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

If you are interested in participating in a project to bring transitional housing to homeless veterans, there will be a meeting on Monday at 11 am at Mountain View Community (the Carroll County nursing home).  Everyone is welcome.

Bernadine Dubois spent the weekend in St. Johnsbury, Vt. with her daughter and visited her sister who is in an assisted living facility.
