The selectmen’s office will be closed on April 16, 17, and 20. There will not be a selectmen’s meeting on April 22. The next selectmen’s meeting is scheduled for April 29.

Fire Chief Solomon attended the selectmen’s meeting Wednesday. He’d been doing an inspection of the premises and stayed to speak with the selectmen afterwards. His report on the inspection will come at a later date, but he did advise the selectmen that there were some issues that he noted. Among them were problems with the emergency lighting in the building and that the doors from the from the large meeting room did not conform to emergency exiting.

This year’s Conservation Committee’s birdhouse program is reaching its end. As the judging is scheduled for April 15, all birdhouses are due in Town Hall before that date. The birdhouses will be placed in the Albany Town Forest along the Swift River once the selection is made. Good luck!

Gibson Center: Dwight Smith will present The History of a 117 year old Pullman Palace Car Named “Gertrude Emma” at a potluck dinner held at the Conway Historic Society on April 14. To sign up and for home pick-up call 356-3231.

Library: The Family Place Play Group meets at 10:30am on Monday. On Tuesday it’s Story Time for Babies at 10:30am. On Wednesday at that time it’s Story Time for Preschoolers followed at 11am by Yoga for kids and caregivers. On Friday and Saturday there’s a Spring Book Sale.

UNH Extension: Learn how to use gardens as teaching tools by sharing stories, successes and challenges. Ron Christie will lead the program on April 16 from 4-7pm at the Conway office. The newly formed Winnipesaukee Beekeepers Association will hold meetings the first Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm at the Tuftonboro Library. Guest speakers will cover special topics based upon interest of the group. Call Olivia Saunders at 447-3834 for more information. On Saturday, April 25 from 10am to noon at Pine River Orchard in Effingham there will be an Apple & Blueberry Pruning Demonstration. Dress for the outdoors and learn about NH suitable varieties, pest management, fertilizing, and other cultural practices.

The Benefit Potluck Dinner and Chinese Auction held on Saturday for David “Butch” Moody went very well. There were a good number of items and gift cards for auction. A big thanks to all the businesses that donated gift cards and businesses that gave items for the Chinese Auction. Thanks too to all those who helped with the dinner and the running of the auction and to all the friends and neighbors who came and made the event a success. With this financial help from people in the community, David’s needs in his battle with cancer will be helped.

Tomorrow, Saturday, at Matty B’s Mountainside Cafe there will be a benefit Auction and Concert for Danielle Shannon beginning at 6pm. Danielle suffered a brain injury while skiing in Alaska where she worked. She is recovering at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. Though she is making progress, there will be a long rehabilitation period and needed therapy. The monies gathered from these community fundraisers will go towards offsetting her medical expenses.

There’s a tasty treat in store for those who attend Just Desserts, the fundraiser for Mountain View Nursing Home (county home in Ossipee) on Sunday from 3-5pm. Along with delicious desserts there’s also an auction. All proceeds go to enhance the lives of the residents of the home. See you there.
