Albany has a couple of lots of land they will be selling by sealed bid (auction). All bids must be received at the Albany Selectmen’s Office by September 1,2014 at noon. On September 3 the bids will be opened at a public meeting in the selectmen’s office and read aloud. The properties are Map 6 Lot 155 on Bald Hill Road, and Map 9 Lot 98-A on Chase Hill Road. A bid packet may be picked up at the selectmen’s office or can be obtained on line through email (contact@albanynh.org).

World Fellowship: Check out the movie, “The Wisdom to Survive: Climate Change, Capitalism & Community” at 10am on Sunday, August 10. On Tuesday at 7:30pm Cathy Goldwater and Corry Hughes will review New Hampshire’s campaigns against fossil fuels, coal, and tar sands and examine sustainable energy efforts. On Thursday, Boston homeless advocate Jim Greene will speak about solidarity and social change in the face of structural and systemic homelessness.

Tin Mountain: The cycling program held on July 19 was a great success. Cyclist came from across the country and from other lands. Abe Benghait was the first to finish the 100 mile course. Today, there is a trip to Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Sanctuary to see the loons, bald eagles, osprey, and moose. If you want to attend, meet at the Jackson Historical Society at 6:30am and bring binoculars and a lunch.

Gibson Center: Tuesday’s movie “Somewhere in Time” begins after lunch. Or join Rodman Dickie, WWII Veteran as he shares his story. Other veterans are encouraged to share as well. Reserve your seat for the Barnstormers’ “Be My Baby” on Wednesday by calling 356-3231. There will be a blood pressure screening on Thursday at lunch time. Library: August 12 at 6pm join the discussion of “Wonder” by RJ Palacio and the pizza party. On Wednesday at 10:30am it’s Story time for little ones. At 4pm Claes Thelemarck of UNH Extension presents “Bubbleology”.

UNH Extension: Thursday in Wolfeboro there’s a workshop on Food Preservation. Canning, freezing and drying are the main methods of preserving food. The method(s) you choose depends on finding safe preservation guidelines, whether you have the equipment and space needed to process and store your food and how much it will cost. Sandy Stowell’s dear friend Carol Young will be returning home to California having spent several weeks enjoying New Hampshire.

Yes the traffic is awful, but there is the great weather and so much to do during the summer. Get out anyway and have a great week.
