This program created by a team of UNH researchers was used by fifth and sixth grade students at an after school enrichment program at Pine Tree Elementary School. What the group discovered was that a popular local restaurant was selling its used cooking oil to an environmental firm that, in turn, refined it into biodiesel, and resold it to the Mount Washington Cog Railroad to power their trains. Claes says he’s so pleased with how the program went, he’s ready to expand it into the rest of the Conway school system. Mary and Arthur Leavitt thought that the Fourth of July had arrived early to their home on Route 16 when last Friday they could see the electric wiring in their yard afire. They dialed 911 and the Conway Fire Department who arrived quickly to find the wire had burned itself out. But sparks were still flying and the fire department crew called PSNH. When they arrived they cut down most of the tree that was involved and repaired the wires. The electricity returned to the Leavitt home and life got back to normal. Thankfully nothing dire had occurred thanks to the fact that the problem was sighted early and the quick work of the fire department and PSNH.

Albany welcomes its newest resident, Murphy Rogers Scolaro, born on January 23 to Robin Kohrs and Matthew Scolaro. He joined his brother, Anthony in the family.

Another week, another snowstorm. It’s beautiful to watch come down, it’s lovely to see the trees sparkling, but it can be dangerous driving. Be careful but do enjoy your week.
