April 8, 2016

An early item on the selectmen’s agenda Wednesday was the quotes for renewing the town’s liability insurance. Our present insurance company was several thousand dollars per year less than the other company was asking. The selectmen decided to go with Primex, our present company. Given the accident that occurred on Tuesday at town hall, having liability insurance comes in handy. A driver lost control of her car, hit the newly constructed stone wall in front of the museum and took down 90 percent of the wall as well as the stop sign. No one in the car was injured. Fortunately it appears she too had insurance.

Rob Nadler reported to the selectmen regarding the Conservation Committee’s land use. The committee has a land use contract with the farmers to mow the fields in the Albany forest and keep the hay as payment. Selectmen Rick Hiland questioned whether the contract with the farmers was legally binding. According to Rob, he was told by our attorney that all was fine, but he will check again.

Two members from North Country Council came to the meeting to discuss what they do for the various towns they represent.  Among the list was regional planning for land use, economic development to increase jobs in the area, help with grant writing, technical assistance, capital improvements, assistance with hazard mitigation. Rick Hiland asked for their assistance for three of our town’s businesses which they were more than happy to do.

Later, Rick Hiland suggested that the selectmen attend the state meeting when the state representatives discuss manufactured housing and property deeds.

The selectmen have scheduled a work session on Friday, April 22 at 4 p.m. to deal with rules and procedure. This meeting is open to the public. If you have some ideas but are unable to attend the meeting, send an email to the office.

There will be a School Board meeting on April 12 at 5:30 p.m.  All are welcome to attend.

Kathy Vizard told the board that the town needs to update their parking fines and other fines and needs more enforceable ordinances.

The selectmen’s office will be closed on Monday and Thursday next week.
