At the selectmen’s meeting Wednesday, most of the meeting was taken up with discussion between the selectmen and representatives from the DRA and the town assessor. It’s been five years since the town has had an assessment. I will have more definitive information to report regarding just who may expect to see the assessor in the next few weeks. The Planning Board has held its reorganization meeting. Leah Valladares has been selected as chair and Tara Taylor has been selected as vice-chair. There are still vacancies on the board. Tin Mountain: From now until May 15 visit the center and view the local artwork on display.
Gibson Center: Before lunch on Wednesday come and learn about the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and how it may help you. Bring along a friend too. To sign up for one to one assistance with the forms (times are available after lunch) call 356-3231. On Saturday there’s a trip to see Judy Collins at the Merrill Auditorium. Library: The Spring Book Sale continues all this week. On Tuesday at 10:30am join the Family Place Play Group. On Wednesday at 10:30am it’s Spring Story Time for Babies and on Thursday at 10:30am it Spring Story Time for Preschoolers followed at 11:00am by Yoga for Kids and Caregivers. At 2pm bring in your questions about the Affordable Care Act. On Friday at 10:30am it’s Touch a Truck Day.
UNH Extension: On Saturday, April 25 from 10am to noon, there’ll be an Apple and Blueberry Pruning Demonstration at Pine River Orchard, 314 Pine River Rd., Effingham. There is a $5 per person suggested donation. Once there you’ll learn about suitable varieties for NH, pest management, fertilizing, and other cultural practices. This is an outdoor activity, so dress accordingly.
Wednesday from 10am to 3pm celebrate Earth day at Remick Museum and Farm. There will be special family-friendly activities. The cost is $5 but those four and under are free.
Need some help at home? The Ninth Annual Honey Do Auction is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 starting with a buffet dinner at 5pm at the Red Jacket. The admission charge is $30. Once there
you can bid on a full day’s service from carpenters, painters, plumbers, electricians etc. There is also a raffle: $10 for three hour spring cleanup done by the “Honeys”. Three tickets cost $25. When you get your work done this way, you are also helping MWV Habitat for Humanity, scholarships for the trades, and other educational programs.
